Effectively leading in consulting requires more than technical expertise. It also requires developing and supporting others, using the right approach for each situation. Coaching, mentoring, managing, and sponsoring each serve a different purpose; the key is recognizing which situations require which. This Women in Consulting luncheon forum will distinguish the four approaches and show how to use each intentionally to develop individuals and empower teams. Using real-world scenarios, presenters explore when to coach by helping others develop their own skills and thinking, when to mentor by sharing guidance and relevant experience, when to manage by providing direction and setting expectations, and when to sponsor by creating opportunity and visibility. Participants learn how to choose and apply the best approach for a given situation, and how to determine and acquire the support they need for their own careers. Hosted by the Women in Consulting Community, this lunch is designed for consultants at every career stage, and all attendees, whether women or allies, are welcome.
