CCA Webinar Policy Expansion Aimed to Help Those Working Remotely

The Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA) understands that social distancing rules, remain in place orders, and other responses to the COVID-19 pandemic have changed the world in which we live. As an organization focused on delivering high-quality continuing education to our members and the profession at large, we already have a robust distance-learning webinar series with flexible pricing options for individuals and groups. However, in recognition of this new environment, we are modifying our webinar policy for group registrations to ensure that those who are now working from a home office can join with their co-workers and participate in leading-edge continuing education.

Under this revised policy, groups of three or more attendees who would ordinarily work from one location/office can connect to each other through their preferred technology (such as WebEx, Zoom, or even a shared phone line) and then connect to the CCA webinar. Under the previous policy, groups were required to be in the same room to participate as a group.

For example, if a company has separate offices in Chicago and Denver, the company would need to register two group registrations to cover both offices. Each would be responsible for creating a group connection, with the person in control of their respective group then sharing his/her screen so their group can view the webinar. This policy revision is now in place and is confirmed through our June 24th webinar. At that time, we will review the policy based on CDC recommendations and other guidelines.

While Enrolled Actuaries can still receive the appropriate Core and/or Non-Core credits, they cannot receive Formal credits unless they are participating in a group of three or more attendees who are substantially engaged in pension service in that same physical location. However, members of the CCA’s Corporate Qualified Pensions Community and Smaller Actuarial Consulting Firms Community are drafting a letter asking the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries to reconsider their policy in light of the current situation.
