By Ken Hohman, CCA President

On January 1st the revised Qualification Standards for Actuaries Issuing Statements of Actuarial Opinion in the United States went into effect.  Among the revisions was a strengthening of the continuing education requirement, and an additional requirement to “keep appropriate timely records as evidence that their continuing education requirements have been met.”  To assist our members in meeting this revised requirement, as well as the CCA's revised program, the CCA is pleased to announce a new Continuing Professional Development tracking tool at http://www.actuarialcpd.org.

Designed as an electronic worksheet, the tool provides members with a single site to track their activities for both Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Enrolled Actuary (EA) credits.  If you were a member of the CCA before December 1, 2007, you will be pleased to know that we have pre-populated any credits you have earned from attending CCA events since January 1, 2006.

Also, credits are automatically entered for CCA members who attend CCA-sponsored events such as:

  • CCA Annual Meeting;
  • Enrolled Actuaries Meeting;
  • Employee Benefits Spring Meeting;
  • CCA Seminars; and
  • CCA Audiocasts.

The site is live and ready for your use.  All CCA members should have received a personalized e-mail with the initial login information on February 21st.  If you have not received the message, contact the CCA office.

The “View CPD Credits” page allows CCA members to view, enter, update, and (if necessary) delete activities and compute their credits on an annual basis.  Members may sort credits by year, type of activity, and area of practice as well as any combination of these criteria.  At the bottom of the page, members can find totals for the different areas of credits required under the Qualification Standards including CPD, Organized Activity, Professionalism, Business Skills, and Specific Qualification Standards.

The “View EA Credits” page contains credit information to allow Enrolled Actuaries to track credits along their three-year cycles.  Members can view their credits by reporting cycle and activity type, as well as a combination of the two criteria.  At the bottom of the page, members can find their total EA Core and EA Noncore credits based on the requested criteria.

Adding activities to the site is done through the “Add Credits” page.  Credits for “Attendee” or “Instructor” activities show on both CPD and EA pages (EA credit is not applicable for activities labeled “Self Study” or “Other”).  Clicking on an activity’s “Edit” link allows members to update any information for both CPD and EA credits on the same page.  Likewise, clicking on an activity’s “Delete” link allows members to delete a credit entirely from the database (a confirmation screen prevents you from accidentally deleting data).

Members who would like to export data may choose the Export page to pull data from the site to an Excel file.

We hope that you find the site intuitive and powerful.  Enhancements to the site are already under way, and we welcome your suggestions via e-mail to Matt Noncek at the CCA office
