Medicare reform, GASB 45 and the ability to save for retiree health are hot issues. The presenters at this seminar examine consulting issues associated with retiree medical. This seminar is for the advanced actuarial practitioner who wants to hear and discuss new issues and the future of retiree medical. Issues discussed include:

  • Options for employers to integrate their pharmacy coverage with the new Medicare Part D program. The seminar panelists review plan offerings and bids for 2006. Other topics include the exploration of the three integration approaches:
  1. Maintaining coverage and filing for the 28% federal subsidy;
  2. Providing a supplemental plan and coordinating with the private Part D plans; and
  3. Providing enhanced coverage through a Part D plan (either a private plan or employer-sponsored plan).
  • Retiree medical accrual accounting for governmental employers. The presenters cover the core problems of understanding, measuring, and communicating the implicit subsidy inherent on most pre-65 governmental sponsored plans, and selecting a discount rate for unfunded plans subject to GASB 45.

  • Update on the Erie Decision, recent EEOC/AARP interactions and their impact on employer-sponsored coverage

This seminar is a unique forum for an update as to what is happening and sharing views on the future. It runs from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, and 8:00 – Noon on Thursday, November 3.
