Sustainability of Federal Programs – The Future of Social Security and Medicare January 11, 2017 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM

On top of the current official $19 trillion of U.S. National Debt, there are far bigger future unfunded liabilities under current law, and Social Security and Medicare are the most massive of them all. Our two experts will provide a high-level overview of these programs and show the magnitude of the obligations and how they have grown over time due to demographic shifts and changes in the law. They will discuss what kinds of changes to current taxes and benefits are projected to be required to achieve long-range sustainability, and look at legislative proposals (past and potential in the future) to bolster the long-term financial status of the programs.
