Susan L. Breen-Held, EA, CPC, MAAA is a Consulting Actuary in Principal Financial Group’s Retirement Actuarial Consulting practice, based in Des Moines, Iowa. She consults with corporate plan sponsors on a range of issues related to the design and funding of defined benefit plans. As Principal’s research actuary for qualified DB plan actuarial issues, she develops continuing education content and anchors workgroups that develop new tools, processes, and consulting communications for Principal’s DB plan sponsors. She also supports Principal’s legislative efforts in Washington, D.C., through review, modeling, and lobbying for various pension proposals.

Sue has been a speaker at numerous professional society meetings and audiocasts. She is also a regular contributor to Principal’s in-house magazine for clients, Benefit Edge. A member of the planning committee for the Enrolled Actuaries Meeting and the committee working with IRS and PBGC to prepare a technical resource books (Gray Book), she is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries, and the American College of Pension Actuaries.
